Coaching:
You need to have your own coach to use this facility.
Type of Bike:
Only track bikes, which are suitable for the facility, are allowed to be used.
Track Dimensions:
The Velodrome track is typically oval-shaped, with banked turns at each end. The standard length of a Velodrome track is 250 meters, though variations exist, including tracks with lengths of 333 meters and 500 meters.
Banking:
The track is banked, meaning it slopes upwards towards the outer edges. The degree of banking varies, with the steepest sections usually found in the turns. The banking is designed to facilitate high-speed racing and to allow cyclists to maintain momentum through turns.
Surface:
The track surface is smooth and made of materials like wood, concrete, or a combination. Wooden tracks are common due to their smoothness and shock-absorbing properties. Track Markings: The track is marked with various lines, including sprinters’ lines, pursuit lines, and others, depending on the specific events held on the track.
Sprints:
Velodromes often have designated sprinter’s lanes on the straights, where cyclists contest sprint events. Distances for sprint events vary but commonly include the flying 200 meters and match sprints.
Infield:
The center of the Velodrome is called the infield. The infield may house various facilities, such as the pit area for team support, seating for spectators, and event infrastructure.
Events:
Velodromes host a variety of track cycling events, including individual and team pursuit, scratch races, keirin, and Madison races. The track’s design, including its length and banking, influences the type of events held. Safety
Measures:
Velodromes implement safety measures such as safety barriers, protective netting, and regulations to ensure the well-being of cyclists.
Lighting:
Many Velodromes are equipped with lighting systems to facilitate events during the day and night.
International Standards:
Velodromes are built to international standards set by cycling organizations to ensure uniformity and fairness in competition. A Velodrome track serves as a crucial venue for track cycling competitions, offering an environment optimized for speed, strategy, and intense competition.
